Rockstar Games unleashed its official gameplay trailer for Grand Theft Auto Online, the multiplayer component of Grand Theft Auto V. It’s not just any multiplayer mode, though. Grand Theft Auto Online is essentially a standalone product that just so happens to use the engine of and come packaged with Grand Theft Auto V.
Debuting on October 1 (after the game’s launch), Grand Theft Auto Online will let players roam a persistent and ever-changing version of Los Santos for a diverse number of game types by themselves or with up to 15 others. As seen in the trailer, some of the classic multiplayer game modes will be available, but players will also be able to earn money to buy houses, garages, cars and even insurance through multiplayer missions specific to Grand Theft Auto Online. While there’s always the opportunity to screw around in sandbox mode, Rockstar has gone through great lengths to provide great depth and a better ease at which to find others to play with.
Oh and did I mention that all of the trailer’s footage is gameplay? Not only does it have a next-gen look on a current-gen platform, but considering all that’s being squeezed into this game, it’s quite a feat and it has me stoked. Grand Theft Auto V launches on September 17 for Xbox 360 and Playstation 3.
